As the spanking New Year that is 2013 rolled in, one of the New Year’s resolutions that I intended to work on was to publish an end of the month post featuring my Instagram photos from each ended month. I thought that this would be quite engaging, as well as a good way to wrap up every part of 2013. Yay or nay? For now, here is post one out of twelve; January 2013 via Instagram. Kitch’ Cafe

I have resided in Makati for more or less my entire existence but I am bemused by how I found this charming café just now. Kitch’ Café, probably short for kitchen or kitschy, was all sorts of wonderful. It was like a hidden treasure buried in the city’s hustle and bustle.

From the exterior, it flaunted nothing out of the ordinary. Nevertheless, once you step in, you’ll be welcomed by pretty pastel furnishings, delightful decorations and a friendly atmosphere that feels like home.

Lemongrass Iced Tea (P60) – It was revitalizing and natural-tasting, not your usual iced tea drink.

Kamikaze Salad/ Mixed greens, cucumber, kani and ripe mangoes with honey wasabi vinaigrette (P150) – As their bestselling salad, this did not disappoint. The honey wasabi vinaigrette raised a fresh, new flavor to the typical salad dressings offered. Plus points for the quirky idea of serving it in a jar!

Adobo Cream Sauce Pasta (P220) – The creaminess of the sauce was spot on and the portions of chicken adobo were tender and tasty. I also loved the crunchy garlic bits atop the pasta although I thought the serving was quite bitin… or maybe that’s because Gabby ate lots of it. Lol just kidding, Bb! :D

Kitch Beef Tapa with Salted Egg and Tomato (P160) – The appetizing beef reminded me a bit of honey cured bacon. With salted eggs, tomatoes, rice and vinegar, what could go wrong?

Chocolate Lava ala Mode (P180) – Heated chocolate cake oozing out with more chocolaty goodness, striped with strawberry and (Gasp!) more chocolate syrup. A big scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side complemented it perfectly.

On the whole, Kitch’ Café is a great restaurant that Gabby and I are glad to have discovered. It is a picturesque place to relax and spend quality time with your nearest and dearest. Serving good comfort food on the dot, we will surely be back to try their other offers.

Tamagoya Noodle House

My Pops is a huge foodie. I assume that I inherited my feelings for food from him. Last June 17th, my sister Dana and I spent the day with him to celebrate Father’s Day. We drove all the way to Antipolo because he wanted us to try this Japanese restaurant that he frequents, Tamagoya Noodle House.

Situated next to an auto repair shop, I did not expect much. As I entered the restaurant, the small first floor was filled. We were just about to go up the second floor but a group that just ended eating nicely offered us their table.

Tamagoya’s interior reminded me of the restaurants back in Nagoya, Japan. Although the space was limited, it was not really a problem. In fact, it even added excitement to the whole dining experience.

Yaki Gyoza/ Japanese pan-fried dumplings (P98 for 6 pieces) - I never really liked Gyoza but I gave this a taste and it was average.

Stamina Ramen/ Noodles with chili miso paste base soup (P168) - The soup’s kick was flavorful but for a chili lover like me, extra spice would have been better. The big bowl was good enough for two so Pops and I decided to share.

Karaage Don/ Japanese fried chicken (P148) – Chicken Karaage is my desired Japanese dish. Gladly, this one did not dissatisfy my taste buds.

Gyudon/ Japanese beef bowl (P148) – I wasn’t able to sample this dish but my sister Dana emptied her bowl and I take that as a good sign!

On the whole, Tamagoya Noodle House is a good restaurant particularly if you’re on a tight budget. Everything on the menu is within your means without sacrificing taste and service.
