Unica Hija has played a big part in the Philippine fashion industry. The brand is known for stylishly classic designs that continue to evolve to give the market what they want to be– chic with a kick of vibrant colors. As their brand name truly translates to only girl and as their beautiful image model, Sarah Geronimo is the ultimate only girl, I began to ask myself; as one of Unica Hija’s new brand ambassadors, what makes me an only girl?

Prior to entering one of the most prestigious universities in the Philippines, De La Salle University, I promised myself that I wouldn’t be intimidated by the brightest learners that I would meet but instead make them serve as my encouragement. Feeling very fortunate that I was given the chance to study in my dream school, I yearned to make my parents proud and bring home the bacon. Thankfully, I have been triumphant of this feat by making it to the Dean’s List more than once. This has become my motivation to strive even more as I come close to my last academic term in DLSU.

I started being an online entrepreneur back in the year 2008. What makes me an only girl in this field is that I am what you may call a one man production. I do research on up-to-the-minute trends and I pick out the products during my travels. I also style the products, shoot them on my makeshift studio, post-process the photos and finally post them up for sale at my online shop, Young Wild Free. While others choose to hire specialized stylists and professional photographers, I go for doing this process all by myself since I have become skilled at this and it has actually turned out to be my passion.

Come to think of it, I am in reality not only a fashion blogger but also a mix of everything in between. If you take a look around this blog, my posts are the very proof that I am more than just your average fashion blogger. Here, I write about my adventures- my voyages overseas, the happenings that I attend, the delectable dishes that I have tasted, the new experiences that I have tried and everything else under the sun. I do not limit my posts to just a single sort because I myself, as well as my qualities are ever changing and as I continue to grow as an individual, I want this blog to document and be a part of my journey.

Last but not the least, I may not be stick thin or supermodel tall but there is one thing that I am sure of- I love my body and I believe that every girl out there should share the same sentiment. This globalized society and the manipulation of media has created a woman’s image so perfectly that most girls my age tend to dislike their bodies and result to crash dieting, starving themselves and having eating disorders. But me? I choose to oppose this. I believe that each one of us is beautiful and blessed, whatever size we may be.

Just learn this by heart- “If you think you’re ugly because you’re not a size 0, you’re the beautiful one, it’s society that’s ugly.” Love your body because this is God’s greatest gift and this is the most wonderful thing that you will ever own.

The thought of having to write about what makes me an only girl was baffling in the beginning. But at this moment, I have come to a realization that without a doubt, there are qualities that make me special and set me apart from the rest. Indeed, I am an only girl. Soy Unica Hija.
